Overview / Job Description

Catch Creation is hiring a Controller to support Muddy Mat, a leading direct-to-consumer (DTC) pet products brand with a strong multi-channel presence across its own website, Amazon, Walmart.com, TikTok Shop, Chewy, and other online marketplaces.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for building and modernizing the company’s financial infrastructure. The Controller will lead the transition from cash-basis to accrual accounting, oversee the migration from QuickBooks Online to NetSuite, manage audit preparation and execution, and establish scalable accounting processes that support continued business growth. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role requires a hands-on finance leader capable of driving operational excellence and strategic financial decision-making.

Responsibilities

Financial Infrastructure & Accounting Transformation

• Lead the transition from cash-basis to accrual accounting.
• Restate historical financial statements where necessary.
• Rebuild and optimize the company’s chart of accounts.
• Develop scalable accounting processes and financial controls.

ERP Implementation & Systems Management

• Own the migration from QuickBooks Online to NetSuite.
• Partner with the external NetSuite implementation consultant.
• Ensure accurate system configuration and successful implementation.
• Improve financial systems and reporting capabilities.

Audit & Financial Compliance

• Lead pre-audit financial cleanup activities.
• Coordinate directly with BDO and external auditors.
• Manage the end-to-end external audit process.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and accounting standards.

Financial Operations

• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
• Manage the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
• Maintain accurate financial records and reporting.
• Establish and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets.

Financial Reporting & Leadership

• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to the CEO and leadership team.
• Support strategic planning through accurate financial analysis.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and financial processes.

Requirements

Experience

• Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
• At least 2 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
• Proven experience transitioning a company from cash-basis to accrual accounting.
• Hands-on experience implementing or migrating to NetSuite.
• Experience managing external audits and working directly with audit firms.
• Experience migrating from QuickBooks Online to an ERP system is highly preferred.
• Experience within eCommerce, direct-to-consumer (DTC), or consumer products companies is preferred.
• Experience with multi-channel revenue recognition is an advantage.

Education & Certifications

• CPA certification (or local equivalent) is strongly preferred.
• Prior experience with a Big Four accounting firm (Deloitte, PwC, EY, or KPMG), particularly in audit or tax, is highly preferred.
